The memorial was constructed in in 1987 with state government funding and unveiled in 1988 at the location where O’Reilly hid in bush waiting for a ship to escape to the USA.

In 2014 an additional memorial was unveiled on the site to commemorate the contributions of Dr. E C Manea to the cause of John Boyle O’Reilly, Dr. Manea along with Liam Barry and then Premier of Western Australia, Brian Burke were instrumental in bringing about the current memorial and ensuring local recognition of O’Reilly.

 

 

The memorial to John Boyle O’Reilly is located along Buffalo Rd approx. 20 KM north of Bunbury, Western Australia. Buffalo Rd is located on the western side of Forrest Highway (lanes headed north to Perth)
